Submission overview
Abstract
We present a magnetoelastic metastructure designed for simultaneous vibration suppression and energy harvesting in structural systems. The configuration integrates a host beam with piezoelectric resonators subjected to magnetic coupling, producing a nonlinear dynamic interaction that broadens the bandgap region and enhances energy conversion efficiency. A reduced-order model is developed to describe the coupling between elastic, piezoelectric, and magnetic domains, enabling detailed analysis of transmissibility and harvested power for varying magnetic distances. Numerical simulations demonstrate that the tunable nonlinearity provides adaptive control of the frequency response and optimal energy recovery under broadband excitation. Complementary experimental tests performed on a laboratory prototype confirm the numerical findings, showing consistent trends in bandgap shift, attenuation level, and power output. The study bridges vibration control and energy harvesting within a unified metamaterial framework, offering a practical route to multifunctional smart structures with reconfigurable dynamic properties.
