Submission overview

Abstract

This study addresses the modeling of the dynamic behavior of twin conductors bundle typical of overhead lines. Each conductor is modeled as a taut Euler-Bernoulli beam with pin-pin boundary conditions and subjected to a spatially distributed force. The two conductors are coupled by a certain number of lumped spacers along the span, whose local effects are incorporated into the governing equations after deriving an equivalent dynamical model. The coupled dynamics is investigated through a semi-analytical approach. The resulting equations are solved by the Ritz-Galerkin method. The time response of the system is given for a few simple cases and validated by comparison with the simulations carried out using commercial FE software. The proposed semi-analytical method shows a close match with the FE software simulations and significant savings in computational time. Comparisons with simulations of more realistic scenarios will confirm whether the method can be considered a new viable tool for analyzing vibrations in overhead lines.
