Abstract
This work addresses the dynamic transformation of spatial deployable modules. This class of structures benefit from two stable unloaded configurations (opened and closed). The transition between this two states is characterized by a snap-through phenomena, often coupled with the bending and torsional buckling of the inner bars. While the influence of the topology, geometry and material and joint parameters on the static nonlinear mechanical behavior of the system has been studied in the literature, the dynamic nonlinear response of such systems is yet not fully understood. In this contribution, the dynamic behavior of deployable bistable modules is studied numerically under different boundary and loading conditions. A tailored joint finite element is used in order to model the joints flexibility and frictional resistance. The influence of the module's parameters and actuation (loading shape and time dependency) on the minimum load required for the transformation and on the post-transformation behavior is studied.
