Abstract
The assessment of structures and components critically hinges on reliable models and fast computational methods in presence of uncertainties in geometrical, loading and material parameters. Unfortunately, the presence of uncertain parameters increases the computational effort required for the solution strongly. Compared to the deterministic system the effort may increase by orders of magnitude, especially in the case of high-dimensional parameters.
Furthermore, the simulation of modern high-performance materials and light-weight structures with inelastic material behavior is often computationally challenging on its own due to time-dependent behavior and complex physics.
Thus, innovative methodologies and new computational techniques are required to enable uncertainty quantification for inelastic structures. This mini-symposium aims to bring together some of the latest developments to tackle this challenge. Possible topics include the uncertainty quantification for inelastic structures, problems with complex physics, coupled problems as well as identification of uncertainties across the scales. Contributions based on stochastic finite element methods as well as new developments are encouraged.
