Abstract
Contemporary applications that span the fields of structural dynamics, mechanical, aerospace and related engineering fields, are becoming increasingly demanding due to the increasing use of new materials, unconventional structural systems and more complex designs. These modern approaches increase creativity and efficiency, but also introduce complex dynamics, the study of which requires the adoption of advanced numerical simulation and design methods as well as structural health monitoring schemes for operating engineering systems, aiming to ensure safety and the resilience of systems against dynamic loads. The aim of this mini-symposium is to constitute a forum for the exchange of latest research developments and ideas in the field of computational methods for structural and multibody dynamics. The session welcomes contributions that cover, but are not limited to, theoretical, computational and practical aspects of vibration, identification and optimization of structures and multi-body systems. A partial list of relevant topics includes the following: i) development of computationally efficient models for structural systems, ii) data-driven approaches for studying structural systems, iii) system identification of linear and nonlinear systems, iv) GPGPU computing and high performance computing for structural systems, v) methodologies for dealing with large scale structural systems, vi) structural systems with discontinuities and motion constraints, and vii) future directions in the field
